The rotor of a general motor is a permanent magnet. When the current flows through the stator winding, the stator winding generates a vector magnetic field. The magnetic field will drive the rotor to rotate a certain angle, so that a pair of rotor magnetic field direction and the stator magnetic field direction to keep the same. The rotor will rotate at the same angle as the stator’s vector field rotates. With each input of an electrical pulse, the motor rotates at an angle and moves forward one step. The angular displacement is proportional to the number of input pulses and the rotation speed is proportional to the pulse frequency. If we want to reverse the motor, we can do so by changing the order in which the windings are energized. So we can control the number of pulses, frequency and the power sequence of each phase winding of the motor to control the rotation of stepper motor.
